Jake's enthusiasm paid off as Hooton, which has invested £150,000 in staff training and new equipment in the last year, recognised his willingness to learn and made him the company's first apprentice.
Jake said: "I have always had an interest in engineering, My dad's always in his garage working on cars so I've grown up with machinery. I'm really enjoying it."

Director Simon Barrett said: "He came here and knocked on the door because he desperately wanted a chance. He's keen and enthusiastic and the rest you can learn. You can't teach someone to be keen."
Jake approached Hooton after spending four weeks on work experience with the company. He is now working towards an NVQ level 3 in engineering fabrication through NLT Training, a Scunthorpe-based training company.

“Well done Jake, better option than university, you are keen to learn the trade which is great to see in the younger generation, we need more as keen as you to learn.”
