IDEALLY he would have liked a striker on a permanent basis.

But Scunthorpe United boss Ian Baraclough is still confident new loan signing Lee Miller can make a difference in the Iron's survival battle.

"It's been frustrating hard work," said the United manager of his search for a front man.

"You ask a lot of questions and ask a lot of clubs about their players.

"You try to get a permanent one but people are asking ridiculous money that you can't justify paying.

"You ask about the loan situation and people don't want to let their strikers come out.

"It took a while to sort this out with Middlesbrough and it wasn't guaranteed that Lee would come.

"But once I got something positive from Tony Mowbray (Boro boss), I was like a shark to the bait.

"I'm delighted.

"It gives us a bit of physical presence and he's different to anybody else we've got in the club.

"I think that's important. That gives us choices with the way we want to play.

"He's not just one where you lump the ball up to him. He's got a bit of finesse about him as well.

"He's not had a great deal of football with Middlesbrough, but he's done well before that and has scored goals."

“P.Doff wants us shopping at Aldi again. Quick grab you shopping bag and grab to shelf strikers! Doesn't work like that (unless you tap up the player first as is suggested with Bent) You can see this by looking at Chelsea this window with the transfer for Luiz (I think it was Defender) falling through and it also not looking like the Torres deal will go through. Look at there financial clout and compare to ours. Do we just sign any two strikers to make people who can type happy? Do we chose our targets wisely (and yes that includes people not good enough to get in the first team like Hayes wasn't at Norwich) and get results even if it means not getting everything you want? Of course you chose wisely. Getting the tone but get also the realism that the cheque book is now closed P.Doff.”

“Sounds to me like that's all his deals done for January so what do we think to the signings? I think they have improved the squad significantly.”

“"IDEALLY he would have liked a striker on a permanent basis." Well go get one if the spin about getting a "couple" of strikers in is true.

We have gone from a £600k spectacular offer to loaning a same league reject. Is any REAL fan surprised?”
