Mobile phone users can now view this site's HTML5 friendly mobile version

MOBILE phone users can now view a newly launched format of the Scunthorpe Telegraph website.

The popular site, www.thisis scunthorpe.co.uk, has rolled out a HTML5-friendly mobile version, helping you access all the latest news in North Lincolnshire at your fingertips.

The move is in response to an ever-increasing number of users logging on using their smartphones.

It will complement the weekly Telegraph, which is the first place to go for in-depth analysis and news and sport from across the region. And the new format will make it even easier for readers to get all the latest breaking news as it happens throughout the week.

Lee Williams, executive digital director for Northcliffe – the Scunthorpe Telegraph's parent company – said a total of 31 per cent of all visitors to thisis sites such as Scunthorpe in November did so from a mobile handset, including 2.4 million unique visitors.

Mr Williams said: "The changes were in response to a significant increase in the number of people accessing the web pages from smartphones.

"I am forecasting 40 per cent of all visits by January and 50 per cent of all visits by July will be via mobile handsets.

"The new format will help improve the speed and ease with which visitors can navigate the site."

UK smartphone ownership is the highest in the world at 52 per cent of all phone devices and forecast to be 60 per cent in January. Globally, there are now 4.2bn mobiles and statistics suggest more people own a mobile than a toothbrush.

The thisis network is transferring to new publishing company Local World as part of Northcliffe Media's merger with the Iliffe Newspaper Group.

With more emphasis placed on breaking news on thisisscunthorpe, the number of unique visitors to the website is growing and growing. In recent weeks, thisisscunth orpe.co.uk has broken dozens of stories, including the sacking of Scunthorpe United boss Alan Knill and updates on the flooding situation from last month.
