Molten metal incident involving torpedo ladle at Tata Steel in Scunthorpe
Scunthorpe fire crews were called to an incident involving molten metal at the Tata steelworks in the town last night (Tuesday Feb 26).
It happened shortly after 5pm and was centred on a torpedo ladle.

The BOS (basic oxygen steelmaking) plant at the Tata works in Scunthorpe
Humberside Fire and Rescue service estimated the amount of metal involved to be 20 tonnes.
Works personnel isolated the electricity supply in the area, while water was used to cool the ground near the ladle.
