Iron keeper Murphy: I have heard nothing from Rovers
SPECULATION linking Joe Murphy with a move away is just that, according to the Scunthorpe United goalkeeper.
National newspaper The Mirror published a story suggesting Doncaster Rovers were lining up a move for the Republic of Ireland international, who is out of contract in the summer.
-

NO GO: Iron keeper Joe Murphy.
But Murphy has dismissed those claims, insisting he is unaware of any interest in his signature.
"I rang my agent and he doesn't know where it has come from," said the 29-year-old.
"Obviously they are just filling papers.
"I am out of contract and there is always going to be speculation about people who are out of contract.
"Whoever has put it in there, I have not got a clue.
"I haven't spoken to anyone, but then I haven't spoken to anyone here either, things are up in the air as I am injured."
With his first child on the way, Murphy admitted the uncertainty surrounding his future is not ideal.
"Since the initial talks around Christmas there has been nothing from Scunthorpe," he added.
"I have been in this situation before a few times and it is not great, especially with the baby coming.
"I would like to have something sorted by now, but there is still a month and a half left of the season."

“1500 club - for once I'm in total agreement with you. We may not even see him play for Scunthorpe again.”

“Murphy wont be here next season - out of contract, over 24, running his contract down while Lillis is on a long deal.
I doubt Joe is even injured.
Great keeper, the best we've had seen Neenan and I wish him all the very best at whichever club he has already signed for.

“Well put Skuna - I know I'd prefer to be going in to the final games of the season without key players worrying about whether or not they'll be getting paid in a few weeks time.”

“@ O'Moggie
You can't have it both ways.
If he were happy with the contract it would mean it met his demands. To intimate that he would play a waiting game for more money I think is a slur on his integrity.
I think that you will find that it is the club who play the waiting game, whether that be for expediency or opportunism is open for discussion. I would add though, that not everyone has Wharton's millions to fall back on. When his contract is over no money comes in and I'm sure he isn't that rich to be able to afford that.

“If Joe and United sort out a contract that he is happy with, I wonder if he will sign it straight away. My guess is that he will put it off till summer, to see if he gets a better offer.”

“Seem to remember Joe commenting on this publicly before. Not a brilliant way to treat someone who's been a pivotal part of our recent successes. While Lillis will turn out to be a good keeper, we still need Joe's experience if we're serious about staying up/getting back up next season.”
