SCUNTHORPE United are set to unveil their first new face of the January transfer window today, with defender Paul Reid high on the list of possibilities.

Iron manager Ian Baraclough last night revealed a new arrival is due to be announced, with the player travelling to North Lincolnshire ahead of signing a deal this morning.

But he refused to confirm or deny whether it was the Colchester man heading to Glanford Park, with a striker also on his radar.

"We had a player coming over last night and he will be announced this morning," said Baraclough.

"But I don't want to tempt fate by saying who it is.

"I was hopeful of something getting confirmed yesterday but hopefully that will now come to a conclusion today.

"Something has dragged on and on a little bit.

"That's a classic example of clubs not wanting to part with what they have got."

Reid is someone who United have pursued before, back in 2008, and is rated highly by the Scunthorpe boss.

The 28-year-old's three-year deal with the U's expires this summer, when he will become a free agent.

With Rob Jones, Cliff Byrne and Niall Canavan all unlikely to be fit for tomorrow's trip to Leeds, his arrival would come as a timely boost to Baraclough's injury-hit squad.

"I said before he was the sort of model I was looking for," he said of the former Barnsley skipper whose time at Colchester has been hampered by a knee injury.

"A model type of player.

"He's someone I've been interested in, but I can't confirm or deny that it's him."

U's boss John Ward also admitted he has had conversations with his Scunthorpe counterpart.

"I speak to Ian Baraclough, I speak to lots of managers and I have been asked the question (about Reid)," he said.

In addition to problems at the back, Baraclough is keen to solve those up front, with a lack of goals proving costly in recent games.

However, he declined to say where his search for a new striker had taken him.

He did though, rule out a move for Cambridge winger Robbie Willmott who had been linked with the club.

"A lot of names have been mentioned by agents," said Baraclough.

"He's been spoken about by agents, trying to drum up interest."

“The parachute payments are payable in the first year but Hull didn't see theirs as they had to pay transfer fees from last year with it.
As for the pound coins/blanket, you cannot have been a Hull follower for long as it wasn't many years ago when you were almost locked out of Boothferry park and your supporters sat on the pitch towards the end of a 2-0 deficit to the mighty Iron!
It's all on youtube if you don't believe me.”

“you've missinterpreted what i wrote obviously the parachute payment will stop but it wouldnt bother us that much being in the premiership garantees you 100 million in revenue a season and of course we want promotion we havnt given up on the play offs. no idea about the coins and a blanket but if its true il be sure to do the same for scunny should the need arise, now run along chaps and prepare for your thrashing off the scum tommorow!!!”

“First admittance by Dave in Hull that his team are rubbish. You will only get those parachute payments if you stay down for two years you muppet (unless the latest rule change changed the situation) so you are basically saying that you won't go up with your team of talent this year and next. (Oh and by the way I believe if you do the payments then get split among the NPC league clubs like Scunny!) It def happened with Newcastle and West Brom.”

    “Dave,
Were you there when Scunny fans were chucking pound coins into the blanket to save your Hull City?
Are you even old enough to remember that (and it wasn't so long ago).
Please reply as its the fourth time I've asked you!”

“they did a great job did'nt they? we almost had no club because of them two pri@ks. i was a supporter of browny until he started using the naughty step with players that cost us valuble points. i dont know how you can say duffen was good because all he did was sign cheques and put players like kilbane on 25k a week contracts. you think there that good why dont you lot get em signed up? you'l be playing grimsby in two season with a debt of 40 million.”

“Dffen and Brown achieved more in their time at Hul than Pearson ever will - you may knock them for spending cash but I'd wager that you were demanding so at the time.

Abdisalam Ibrahim - COOLER THAN THE FLIP SIDE OF THE PILLOW.

    Up the Iron!”

“i think weil be alright to be honest. adam pearsons a good buisness man unlike that pri@k duffen who got us in that mess. I totally agree we was in a right mess but we arnt now and wont be in the future. we got all our signings that i mentioned by only spending 2.8 million now thats sounds good buisness for the quaility we got for that sum of money. hull city are aiming for the playoffs this season and its achievable we did it 3 seasons ago, so we could be on an even better financial footing. nice of you to worry about us but im sure weil be ok!”

“Reid would be a gr8 signing, if we can get a quality striker we might be able to turn this season around.
We don't have much to shout about this season, No hot-shot striker, No star loanee and no manager who gets us playing good football. I think the real fans out there should just enjoy the CCC because in my opinion I don't think we will stay up”
