A NATIONAL campaigner has endorsed the Scunthorpe Telegraph campaign to scrap the Humber Bridge tolls campaign.

John McGoldrick and the National Alliance Against Tolls (NAAT) won the tolls battle in Scotland earlier this year.

The organisation opposes any kind of tolling, claiming the charges restrict economies and are an unnecessary tax on bridge users.

Mr McGoldrick signed the Telegraph petition and pledged to promote the campaign on the NAAT website.

He said for the 'A Toll Too Far' campaign to succeed it is vital there is pressure from 'the people, the press and the politicians'.

"Removing the tolls would help the economy and the annual toll loss would be £22-million, compared with the £50-billion that drivers pay to the Government in fuel duty and other taxes," he said.

"It is a small figure compared to the hundreds of billions that the Government has found to support the banks this week."

About 1,200 people have already signed up to the petition.
