National finals held at Scunthorpe track
SCUNTHORPE Poly Cycling Club held two days of track cycling events at Quibell Park recently, including the finals of three national cycling competitions.
The men's sprint and endurance events and the ladies Omnium and supporting events took place, with a total prizes value of over £1,000.

Local riders did well at the meeting, with Scunthorpe Poly's Jamie Rogers and John Brearley both winning events.
Rogers, who was riding the National Time Trial Championships for Juniors the next day, rode comfortably to win the Ken Cross cars five-mile from team-mate Brearley, along with a win in the block handicap.
Brearley took advantage of a tactical error by Rogers to push him into second spot in the devil event, when his team-mate looked to have it won.
The racing started with the men's sprint for the Jack Tighe Trophy, with series leader Chris Pritchard, from Sheffield and riding for the SIS.com team, dominating from the start.
Pritchard set the fastest qualifying time for 200m, with 11.53 seconds, the only rider to get inside 12 seconds; well short of the track record of 10.7 seconds, set by Olympic gold medallist Jason Kenny in 2006, but a good ride on a windy day nonetheless.
He was a full one second clear of the next qualifier, Marloe Rodman from Jamaica, also riding for the SIS.com team.
In the first rounds of the sprint, Pritchard came through his heat easily to be joined in the next round by Rodman, along with the other two heat winners, local rider Richard Lambert, riding for Cottingham Cours, and Masters Champion Steve Davies, of Ferryhill Whs.
Pritchard and Rodman comfortably made the final, with Pritchard holding off Rodman's challenge down the back straight to pull away for a comfortable win in the final.
Neil Withington snatched third place in a tight finish in the minor final from Richard Lambert.
The ladies Omnium was dominated by series leader Janet Birkmyre, riding for the XTR Elmy Cycles team, winning three of the five events; the time trial, 8km scratch race and the sprint.
She also finished second in the pursuit race and third in the 8km points race, this gave her a clear points advantage over second-placed Cassie Gledhill, of DNA Cycles, and Cheryl Owens, of GS Metro, in third.
Sunday's racing was all endurance distance events, with the main 20k national series race being contested by a good field.
Bryan Taylor, riding for VC Londres, was in no mood to let any breaks get away without him in it, despite strong attempts from Andrew Magnier, of Planet X, and then Steven Guymer, of Raleigh Avanti
The final attack by John McClelland, who attacked with six laps to go only to be pulled in by the chasing pack on the last lap and the sprint for the line, was won by Taylor from a surprise second place from David Brearley of Cottingham Cours.
Another good ride came from Jodie Brumhead, of Cottingham Cours, in the eight-lap block handicap.
Starting in the ladies group just behind the A riders, she made a quick start to latch on to the back of the A group and hung on to them for most of the race to stay away to win from Scunthorpe Poly's Antony Nash, who had ridden a time-trial event in the morning.
Tomorrow, Scunthorpe Poly are holding the regional track championships at Quibell Park, with riders from East Midlands, Yorkshire and the North East Regions competing for their area championships.
The racing starts at 1pm to give everyone the chance to see the Tour Of Britain opening stage, which starts at Central Park, just half a mile from the track.

“A prestige event I and many other have only found out about after the meeting, shame it wasn't advertised better then a good attendance would have ensued.”
