A WRITER who grew up in North Lincolnshire is celebrating after having a play commissioned for national radio.

Sarah Hehir beat 1,200 other hopefuls to the BBC Writer's Prize for her drama, Bang Up.

The mother-of-three, from Worlaby, will now have her play turned into a 45-minute feature for Radio 4's Afternoon Play slot.

Sarah, 38, said the winning play is a drama about a woman trying to teach a young offender in a detention centre.

And she said she hoped winning the commission would be the start of a successful career.

She said: "It is a springboard but getting a Radio 4 Afternoon Play has been my dream."
