A NEW NHS dental surgery will allow the 5,000-strong waiting list to be ripped up.

North Lincolnshire Primary Care Trust (PCT) hopes to have the new surgery open in Scunthorpe in June.

It will begin a consultation stage later this month before putting the contract out to tender.

A PCT spokesman said: "The new dental practice will remove the need for the PCT to continue maintaining a waiting list for people wishing to access NHS dental services within North Lincolnshire."

The surgery could then be included within a clinic in Crosby planned to open in about 2011.

Chris Huyton, chairman of the Local Dentistry Committee, believes a two or three man practice would be enough to satisfy everyone on the waiting list.

“Louise, yes I read the story but June 2009 is almost a year away and then they'll start consulation about a new surgery for 2011. What happens to us who have no chance of an NHS dentist between now and June next year, do we keep praising the poor PCT and suffer on despite paying National Insurance for this sort of thing??
This country is a total disgrace now when you can't even get the basic health services you've already paid out for!”

“By Gum, haven't theTelegraph readers got their Teeth into this, the Root of the problem is lack of denists. If they used their Wisdom they will see that the PCT hope to open a new surgery by June 2009 and to Crown it the surgery could be included in the new Crosby surgery. Surely an Enameld service. I wonder who will reveal the Plaque at the opening ceremony.”

“I may be wrong (it wouldn't be the first time) and it may be how the Telegraph have worded the story thats causing the confusion, but the way I read it is that they are planning to open a new dentist by June (assuming they mean 2009) and THEN later in 2011 it will become part of a clinic (probably alongside a GP practice) that they are also planning to open. So in 2011 perhaps they will move the dentist (due to open in Jun) & its patient list to wherever the new clinic opens. Does anyone agree with this interpretation? Perhaps someone from the SET could comment if they actually read comments??”

“My teeth could have dropped out by the time this happens - if it ever does! Time this (and any other) Govt started spending in this country instead of wasting so much money trying to sort out the problems of other countries. MP's are OK - all private, paid for by us - blow you Jack !!!”

“How many people who are already registered with dentists have had letters sent to them to get a check up whilst waiting on the waiting list? I'm already registered with a dentist but they sent me a letter to get a check up at the dentist i'm already with. Yet when i rang up to tell them that i was already registered and it was my wife that needed a dentist, they said she would have to go on the waiting list as there are no places. I can understand that as there are others who have been waiting a long time, but i just wanna know how many other people are being double booked so to speak?
    Anyone else had this problem?”

“Do people not read the story, the new surgery is hoping to be open in June next year, it will then be included within the Crosby clinic in 2011 when that starts up. The PCT are trying their best to get this sorted and people just moan with wrong statements.”
