Brigg attacked from the kick off but Paul Grimes’ cross from the right wing was safely held by Dave Parton in the home goal.

Newcastle responded with the ball switched across the pitch to their right wing and then played inside for Christian Millar to strike a vicious shot wide from thirty yards out.

This proved to be a tester because after just six minutes, Tim Sanders won the ball by the left corner flag and was able to pull it back to the unmarked CHRISTIAN MILLAR, who struck another firm shot into the roof of Miles Fenty’s goal from twenty-five yards out.

Greg Archer met a corner kick from Josh Davies in front of goal but the bounce of the ball took the pace from it and Dave Parton saved.

Nathan Sutton had a couple of strikes blocked and then Miles Fenty saved well low down from another attempt. When Liam Davis was fouled outside the penalty area, Josh Davies’ free kick was headed past the top angle of the goal.

Bruno Holden worked the ball inside on the right wing for Chas Fisher to get a shot at goal but Dave Parton again saved comfortably.

A free kick from Paul Grimes was blocked by the defensive wall but the loose ball was struck over the Newcastle goal leaving the home team ahead by the single goal at half time.

Brigg played slightly better in the second half winning more possession of the ball but scarcely testing Dave Parton in goal.

Liam Davis had the best opportunity of levelling the score when he was played clear into the penalty area but pulled his shot just past the upright post. Tim Sanders blasted a shot over the Brigg cross bar following a left wing attack.

Ryan Paczkowski replaced Bruno Holden after an hour’s play and almost scored with his first touch of the ball as he dived to get a head on a right wing cross in front of goal but Dave Parton was well positioned to save.

In the final minute of the game, Ryan Paczkowski won the ball in the penalty area and pushed it forward for Scott Hellewell to head it forward for PAUL GRIMES to get a critical boot on it and into the back of the net for an equalising goal, but there was insufficient time left for either team to go on to win the game.

Brigg now face Chasetown at home on Saturday afternoon and follow this with another home game on Tuesday evening against Sheffield FC.

Brigg Town: Fenty, Fisher, Dudley, Davies, Hellewell, Gee, Davis, Archer, Holden, Grimes, Buttle.

Subs:Paczkowski(62), Broughton (80) and Payford (62) for Holden, Buttle and Davies; Windle and Zand not used.
