NIGEL Adkins is finally close to being installed as Southampton's new manager.

Tomorrow is expected to be the 45-year-old's final day in charge of the club.

The Iron boss told a press conference this afternoon that he remains in discussions with the League One club.

Adkins said he will not resign from his role at United - but hopes that the two clubs are close to agreeing a compensation package.

And while he is still expected to be at Glanford Park tomorrow, he does not know where he will be come Saturday - at the Iron's game with Bristol City, or Swindon, where Southampton are in action.

“Is no one allowed to ask why such a successful manager, wasn't tied down to a long term contract?

Moaning about 'these people' and putting a 'class' tilt on proceedings can never hold as much water as actually showing long term faith, commitent and investment in a manager...stepping down a division? That is crazy...Sould be ashamed of the shoestrings that dkins was forced to work with/on - if ever there was a man worthy of a massive wage, it is/was Adkins.

    Up the Iron!”
