Council to rank schools by energy efficiency
PLANS to encourage North Lincolnshire's schools to 'think green' could see their energy efficiency ranked in order to reduce their carbon-foot print.
The region's 82 schools currently use 45 per cent of North Lincolnshire Council's total energy consumption.

Plans for schools to become more energy efficient were discussed at the latest Economic Development and Corporate Issues Scrutiny Panel which took place at Pitwood House on Monday.
Cllr Bernard Regan, cabinet member for highways and planning highlighted the importance of making an action plan to reduce carbon emissions.
He said: "We must reduce our energy consumption 20 per cent by 2020.
"As a council we use a variety of energy and to reduce our carbon-footprint and that of all of the residents in North Lincolnshire will be a hard task.
"We need to look closely at all of our activities and 45 per cent of our energy is used by schools so we must encourage more heads, staff and pupils to think about environmental issues.
"We are destroying the earth's ability to transform carbon dioxide.
"As a plant we are producing five times as much as the earth can handle due to industrialisation and something urgently needs to be done about it."

“Having worked in a number of schools I can honestly say that if anything they need to actually turn the heating up.
Been in schools where kids have been sat in their coats working (those that bother to bring them which when it is a regular occurance they do bring them.)
So now pressumably all this money the schools receive as part as building schools for the future programmes will now be spent doing this rather than getting classrooms suitable for the job filled with the proper resources (lots of which the teachers have to make from scratch or buy out of their own pocket) .”

“Classrooms at 19.5 degress are unacceptable and a danger to a childs education Cornell University reseach found;
The results are a little surprising. At 66 degrees Fahrenheit (18.8 degrees Celsius) workers typed 54 percent of the time and with a 25 percent error rate. When the temperature was raised to 77 degrees Fahrenheit (25 degrees Celsius), the workers were typing 100 percent of the time and with a paltry 10 percent error rate. From this data, it is clear that office temperature can have a drastic effect of worker output.
Cllr Ragan saving is worthless if it affects as reduction in tempreture affects childre as much if not more than adults”

“If the council really want to save the earth ( which they don't } stop holding meetings all over the county and hold them in one place and those who have to travel from out of town run an energy efficient people carrier to bring them into town .”

“I'm with you Chris. Schools will probably end up employing someone to deal with this rather than spending the money on teaching. Maybe Mr Regan should stop bleating a\bout the proposed Windfarm near his house if he's that concerned about this issue...”

“I am getting very bored with all this "green" and "Carbon footprint" business. It has become very commercialised and as a natural progression, global warming will never be stopped.”
