Scunthorpe United: International O'Connor pledges to stay at Iron
MICHAEL O'Connor has assured Scunthorpe United fans he will not be leaving the club in the summer.
The Northern Ireland international, seen as one of the most talented players at United's disposal, still has a year left on his current contract.

Settled: Michael O'Connor loves life at Scunthorpe United.
And Iron boss Alan Knill has expressed his desire to keep hold of the midfielder, despite an expected overhaul of the playing staff in the coming months.
With the temptation to seek a move in the close season, O'Connor insists nothing could be further from the truth.
"I am loving it here. I live in Lincoln, which is half an hour away, and I am settled," O'Connor told the Telegraph.
"My kids are settled too, so I am just happy enough to be part of Scunthorpe United.
"I spoke to the gaffer last week and his assistant Chris Brass, and they want me to stay and build a team that is good enough to get back into the Championship.
"Not one player in that team is good enough for the Championship, including myself.
"But I think next year, with the gaffer and Brassy on board, we have got a good chance because they are two good guys and they know their football."
The 23-year-old even suggested another deal may be on the table for him, but it is not something he will entertain until after a short break back in his homeland.
"I have got a year left on my current contract, but I think there might be a contract on the table for me," he continued.
"I am going to have a couple of weeks at home, see the family in Belfast and see what they say.
"I have got a young family now, with two kids, so I would have to see, financially."
Josh Wright has confirmed to the club he will definitely leave when his contract expires in the summer.
The news comes after he revealed in the Telegraph on Saturday his agent was already in negotiations with a 'handful' of Championship clubs over a switch.

“I can't wait to see who Knilly slings out in the summer.
I just hope that Murphy and Mirfin think long and hard about their futures and look at the failed moves of past players. I'd like to see them stay but if they go best of luck to them both.
I am looking forward to the summer to see just what Knilly can do to try and place the balance back in the team.
As for signings I'm sure a number of names will go around but Ryan Lowe has got to be Knilly's number 1 target and someone I'd like to see is Gary Jones from Rochdale, him and O'Conner would be a great partnership. C'mon Iron lets not believe the dream is over!”

Hang on a minute folks!
The summer is a long time in football and clubs will be coming in for our best players, O'Connor being one of them.
If a bigger club comes in with a better financial deal then I expect O'Conner will have to seriously think about it.
Hopefully though, for his sake, he has taken heed of what happened to Hayesey and Williams last summer and see the grass isn't always greener on the other side.
I hope he does stay because it will give AK somebody to build around.
As for the rest, Murphy and Murfin are sure to go. We should try to hang on to Togwell and Lillis. Some of the rest may make it in league 1 but I will not be disappointed to see any of them leave.”

“Nice to see a it of loyalty by Michael O'Connor, quite rare these days in football. I am not so fussed about Murphy going, he has been excellent for us, and I would wish him well where ever he goes, but Lillis looks a good prosepct, and i think Murphy has not looked quite as good this year as in the past. Mr Wharton, show a bit of forsight please, and Give Michael a decent longer contract, now.”

“This lad & Lillis are about the only 2 worth hanging onto ... assuming Mirfin will go anyway.”

“I agree entirely, if Michael can stay fit then he's the ideal man for "big al" to form a team around. Once our league two standard fringe players are thinned out im looking forward to exciting times ahead with the rebuilding of a team pushing for the championship again... I cant wait untill im walking away from GP at 5pm on a sat afternoon saying WOW we played them off the park with a cheesy smile from ear to ear :) Bring back the good times!
In Alan I Trust... UTI”

“Congratulations to Michael for staying with us. I do believe, as said before, that if Knilly and Brass live up to their hype, then we can get back next year. Don't forget, teams like Preston, Sheff Utd etc will all struggle with finances and although we have taken a hit, we will better off as a whole when offering deals to players who see common sense rather than a quick kill, like Williams for example.Just to also say well done to Adkins on promotion, and those who doubted Crosby, look again you saddo's. Also to Matt Sparrow with Brighton. It's been a difficult season, and i must confess when Barra took over i had my doubts, but everyone's infallable. If the story about Adkins messing up on the Hoskins deal is true, then that would have been one of his worst decisions and definetely cost us survival. Looking forward to the clearout, the ins and outs, and the best of luck to Murph and Mirf and also Josh, but Josh, get a better more subtle management team behind you and justify your elevation.Good luck to all in the close season, players, fans and staff alike.”

“Some good news at last! Let's hope the board get him on a longer deal too - should be the pivot of the team next season.”
