This is Scunthorpe

Annie the Musical, which had been scheduled to come to Scunthorpe’s Baths Hall next week, has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.

The story of Annie’s heart-warming journey from rags to riches was due to be performed from Tuesday, December 4 until Sunday, December 11.

Su Pollard was to play the part of Miss Hannigan.

A spokesman for the Baths Hall said: “We regret to announce that, due to unforeseen circumstances, the planned performances of Annie The Musical at The Baths Hall have been cancelled. There are currently no plans to reschedule the shows. Customers who have purchased tickets will be contacted regarding refunds.”

“Just logged onto the "Whats on" page for the Baths, just to add balance to the argument that it's not a White Elephant.

Here's a list of Whats on in January.....

..... No you didn't miss it, no typing errors, thats it . NOTHING !

No bands, No Comedy, (although there is something called Cemetry Club on at the Plowright!) is this a tribute to the Baths, No Plays, No Circus, NOTHING listed!

    This IS a disgrace.

16million pounds + and there is Nothing on in January!

So how do all the ardent supporters of the Baths justify that?
It must cost at least 200,000 a month and for what?
    Nothing!

It was said before it was built it would be a waste of tax payers money. Liebour gave the contract to run it to SMG 18months ago. Losses are underwritten by the tax payer. There is absolutely no incentive to SMG to do any work on the contract in fact it probably makes commercial sense to divert their attention elsewhere.
And what do we get? Nothing.

It is a white elephant - how ironic the building is white - an architect with a sense of humour.
It is a waste of money.
People doing real service to the community have lost their jobs because of the decision to build this.

Now all those that were in favour get off your backsides and agitate for SMG to deliver on their promises. Try and salvage something from this wreckage. You voted Liebour in to build this its your fault so do something about it!”

“Sorry - lunchtime drinking isn't good for the typing skills.

Final sentence should read: "I do believe that we could have spent less on aesthetics (i.e being "iconic") and got just a little bit more for the money. ;-)"”

“ScunnyMike - I wasn't aware that buildings needed designing so thanks for the input ;-) Only joking - I think they could have been reduced rather than avoided.

In the case of the Pods the consultancy fees, changes made to the initial designs and so on have had a detrimental effect on the layout that was initially envisaged which included more facilities. The original design was a result of a design competition so the initial layout/ structure was already selected before other consultants etc got involved. At every stage of redesigns though facilities were cut which is very disappointing. In short the Pods we have got is not the Pods that was chosen in the original competition. I do believe that we could have spent less on aesthetics (i.e being "iconic") and got before we could have got just a little bit more for the money. ;-)”

“@Truth11: So just how do you think 'design consultant fees' could have been avoided? Buildings don't just appear out of the ground. They need designing and that is going to cost money.”

“Delboy - what is at the Pods is very functional and i use it on a regular basis. Well when I can force myself to exercise at least! But it would have even better if the design consultant fees and extra money spent on the "iconic" elements had been spent on the initial idea of a 50metre pool, climbing walls, additional sports courts and even squash courts, more dance studios etc. It's not that the site is lacking functionality it's just that for me it could have had just a little bit more for the money - perhaps I'm being greedy though and object to several million being spent on "design" rather than build.”

“I do wonder if the council read this website - looked today and you can no longer buy tickets for Annie, " due to unforseen circumstances etc".
    Almost keeping up!”

“Any one else noticed that while the booking fee for the Baths is £2 per ticket for the Plowright it is only £1. Tickets for both venues are booked through the same booking office so why the difference?”

“I don't see the Pods being form over function. I've bben more than happy with the functionality of the place when i've visited the swimming pool. Will be using the sports hall in January and then considering joining the gym....”

“Kirks follies , lets hope people remember at next elections , council out of control too many cash wasting projects , other towns moved forward Scunthorpe well what can you say its a mess town centre ,transport problems , council planners failing the town , a change of staff and heads of departments would only be an improvement , most would have lost their positions if working in private sector so why are they still employed , is it a case of council looking after their own . hope not . but some thing is desperately wrong . When you look at other towns .”

Well at least we agree that you don't have an argument.

    Well done.”
