Click & Collect shopping is being developed by Tesco in Scunthorpe as an added service to customers.

The Extra store within Gallagher Retail Park, on the outskirts of the town, is to offer an extra service to customers.

The retail giant is asking North Lincolnshire Council for permission permission to install a customer collection pod and canopy for the proposed Click & Collect customer collection service.

If approved by the authority, the collection area will be built over 10 existing parking spaces.

Tesco says it proposes to offer customers a new service.

They can order shopping and pay for it online. Then a personal shopper (member of staff) at the store will pick each individual customer's shopping.

This "picked" shopping will be processed and stored in the existing Home Shopping department within the store.

Click & Collect orders will then be loaded onto a van and taken to the customer collection storage pod and canopy, sited in the car park.

Tesco has told the council: "The purpose of the canopy is only to provide protection to customers loading their cars during any period of inclement weather.

"Customers will be allocated a pre-determined collection time slot when ordering their shopping and will then collect their shopping orders from the ‘Click & Collect’ area."

North Lincolnshire Council is not expected to make a decision on the application before April.
