PETROL prices are rising in North Lincolnshire and motorists have been warned of further increases to come.

Pump prices have gone up by about 4p per litre for unleaded since mid-January.

It means the cost of filling up around the region now starts at £1.11 for a litre of unleaded and goes up as high as £1.20 at some stations.

Diesel is £1.12 at the cheapest stations and also goes up to £1.20.

AA spokesman Luke Bosdet said: "Prices are making it more difficult for drivers and families to go about their normal everyday business.

"There is worse to come, with the Government due to put on 3p per litre on April 1 with a fuel duty rise."

Mr Bosdet said oil prices had increased, bumping up the cost to motorists at the pumps.

He said: "Wholesale prices are going up and there is a big question mark as to why that is happening.

"The other problem is the weakness of the pound, which has fallen from about 1.6 to the dollar to 1.5.

"Seeing as oil prices are traded in dollars, when the pound becomes weaker, fuel becomes more expensive."

According to the price comparison website, www.petrolprices.com, the cheapest petrol currently available locally is £1.11 per litre at Scunthorpe's Asda store, followed by the Shell garages at Westcliff and Ashby Road, at a penny more.

The Westcliff branch of Shell is the cheapest for diesel, with petrolprices.com reporting it at £1.12 per litre.

“Almost everyone seems to be blaming the government for the rising fuel cost.

    Wrong!

It is a result of blantant capitalism and exploitation.

Even Nigel Wright ....that's not Nigel Wright of UKIP is it?...blames the goverment.

But what kind of economy does UKIP continuously advocate......CAPITALISM without government interference!!

It's funny how some people try to criticise others for policies that they themselves strongly support.”

“Blair is guilty on two counts. One of giving Brown the Chancellor's job in the first place and secondly, starting a war. He should be held accountable for the second one and put behind bars - not swanning it off in a large mansion and travelling around the world at our expense. They are the most corrupt government of all times.”

“I agree Brian. I have been saying for a long time that we are now a 3rd world country. This government is the worst in the history of Britain. Not only are they greedy and corrupt, they are also thieves, robbing everyone stupid - all except that is but themselves and bankers. There is little wonder there is so much crime when we look at the examples these people set. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em !!!”

“Petrol Pete, that's the sad thing about human nature. Or at least british mentality. Everyone is quite happy to sit behind their computer screens chuntering and moaning about this, but when someone actually suggests action people mock and recoil. Don't complain if you're not going to show any enthusiasm about at least TRYING to change things.”

“This Government lost control of the ecconomy at least three years ago, and although the working people are taxed to the hilt, and the country is bankrupt, still borrowing 200 billion a year, and we are still expected to pay the top rate of taxes in Europe.
They have no control of imigration, and large payouts are given to any Foreigner that can sneak past our weak border control.
Murderers are given new indetities at costs of up to £300,000 to the tax payers, and crime has reached such levels, so that all the jails are full, and criminals only need serve a fraction of their sentences, and probably live better whist in jail than when released.

WE ARE A THIRD WORLD COUNTRY, LEFT BEHIND BY THE LIKES OF INDIA AND CHINA, AND WE HAVE BECOME THE LAUGHING STOCK OF THE WORLD.”
