Calls for a delay in the planned fuel duty increase in January could benefit North Lincolnshire motorists if it goes ahead.

MPs will vote on Monday on the planned 3p a litre increase.

“Fuel tax enrages me as every penny taken in this unscrupulous tax is a penny taken from the wider economy. If fuel taxes were temporarily halved, then instead of paying some £60-£70 in taxes to fill your average family sized saloon car, it would leave your average family with an extra £30-£35 to spend elsewhere and as such create more jobs.”

“Can't they see that by the continual increase in fuel duty the economy as a whole is being strangled? Nearly all products and raw materials are transported by road in this country due to generations of under-investment on the railways, which means all the transport companies have to pass on this increase so prices rise AND we get hit in the pocket when we go to work or travel for leisure. Do the politicians not read the same news stories as the rest of the country or is it just because there are far too many millionaires in the cabinet who can afford to travel no matter what, and therefore don't care?”
