Police campaign to target uninsured and unlicensed drivers
A campaign is being launched by police targeting uninsured and unlicensed drivers using North Lincolnshire’s roads.
Between Wednesday February 1 and Wednesday February 29, officers will carry out targeted stop checks of vehicles to establish if the driver is licensed and insured.
-

Roads Policing Inspector Paul Sergeant, said: "Current statistics indicate that around 32 per cent of all of motor vehicles seized across the Humberside area relate to uninsured vehicles and unlicensed drivers.
"The aim of this campaign is to provide high visibility patrols in an attempt to remove illegal vehicles off the roads, thus making the roads in Humberside a safer place for people who live and travel here.”
Police will also use the campaign to disrupt and detect criminal activity, as it is estimated that six out of ten crimes are assisted by the use of motor vehicles.
Inspector Sergeant said: "Police officers involved in the campaign have the power to seize, retain and dispose of motor vehicles that are uninsured or where the driver of that vehicle is unlicensed under the Road Traffic Act 1988 and we will use those powers where necessary."
"During the campaign the police will also be detecting and dealing with untaxed vehicles, and drivers who do not have a current MOT for their vehicle.
"We shall also be collating intelligence with a view to targeting motorists who have been disqualified but who continue to drive illegally.
"As well as calling Humberside Police directly, I would like to appeal to the public to provide information to the Crime Stoppers hotline (0800 555 111), which can be done anonymously, about drivers or riders who are using their vehicles illegally by committing the offences mentioned above."

“The police would let you think that people are trying to get away with not paying their car tax.. The truth is if you dont or cant pay it on time you may get all these charges and YOU ALSO HAVE TO PAY THE CAR TAX when you tax the car or the duty liable (car tax) is added to the fine. So the claims that people are trying to not pay it are just untrue. Delay .. perhaps.. Instead of all these police chasing this unpaid tax.. perhaps they should concentrate on uninsured cars and no MOT. After all the DVAL already police no tax very effectively.”

“YES! I was one of the 33 that got "caught".. I got taken to court and it was found by the court that I was taking the car to an MOT!! which I was. I got an unconditional Discharge for the Scunthorpe magistrates court. I am now considering pressing charges againt Humberside police for Harassment, as this is not the first time they have taken me to court and issued stupid tickets for no good reason.”

“why do the police drive about with no seatbelts on yet we get fined if we dont, are there bodies unbreakable and why should we pay for a claim if there injured whilst not wearing one, they should be setting an example and not using the feeble excuse that they need to get out of the car in a hurry, how long does it take to unbuckle your belt all of 5 seconds”

“well the sensible thing would be to inform the public when the jobs been done, why warn the targets, what is it with scunthorpe police?less of the oh look at us look how were fighting crime, when in fact they are useless, kicking peoples doors off for a bit of cannabis, then delivering leaflets around the area, telling the residents what a great service they are to the community, scunthorpe police are a bunch of propaganda driven, lying, corrupt, arrogant idiots who think the law applies to other people, not them,”

“We,ve heard it all before, drunken driving/defective lights etc.How many cars do we see driving around with missing lights but nothing seems to be done.
A good area to start this campaign(?)might be around the local schools if they can be bothered.”

“Hope they are out 24/7 like the criminals are and not just 9 to 5,It's surprising what you see when driving around the county on a night shift its even more surprising when you see a police car.”
