SCUNTHORPE's singing stars will again take to the stage on Monday in the latest Pub Idol heat.

The Platform in Station Road, Scunthorpe, is the venue for the latest batch of six competitors in the contest sponsored by The Parishes shopping centre.

They are challenging for a place in the grand final, to be held at the Reeds Hotel in Barton-Upon-Humber in September.

The top singers will be battling it out for a £500 prize.

Gillian Bee, 34, of Scunthorpe, will be singing The Woman In Me, by Shania Twain, and Objection, by Shakira.

She said: "They are both my favourite songs. I didn't want to sing something that's on karaoke all the time.

"I'm looking forward to the heat. There are a lot of really good people in it.

"I know a couple of the people in it and they are really good.

"It's not about winning, it's about the experience. It makes you more confident."

Shane Conneely, 21, of Kirk Close, Scunthorpe, will be performing REM's Losing My Religion and Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me, by Elton John.

He said: "They are songs people say I can sing. Of the two, my favourite is Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me.

"I'm definitely looking forward to it. It's the first time I've entered a competition.

"I hope I've got a good chance. I don't know much about the competitors."

Laura Rose, 16, of Kingsway, Scunthorpe, said: "I'm looking forward to the heat on Monday. It's going to be good.

"I don't know if I've got a chance – it depends what the others sound like.

"I have been in a few singing competitions before and I've won.

"I'm feeling confident, but you can never be sure."

Also singing on Monday will be Lee Bourton, 22, of Victoria Road, Ashby.

He will be singing St Elmo's Fire, by John Parr, and Wind Beneath My Wings by Bette Midler.

He will be joined in the heat by Rachel Lewis, 30, of York Road, Brigg, who will perform Radiohead's Creep and her own song, Break.

The final contestant will be Carrie Hickson, 29, of Trent Street. Carrie will sing 24 Years by Four Non Blondes.
