Pubwatch hails plastic glasses switch
PLASTIC glasses have meant a trouble free Christmas and new year for pub managers in Scunthorpe.
A number of venues in Scunthorpe town centre have abandoned glasses in favour of the safer plastic alternative.
-

Pub landlords say the number of glassings has reduces since the introduction of polycarbonate glasses.
Police figures showed a sharp drop in the number of 'glassings' - where someone uses a pub glass as a weapon - and managers said they reduce the potential for trouble.
Eight bars in the town centre area of Scunthorpe are understood to be using the plastic glasses.
Patience Roberts manager of the Zest Bar in Scunthorpe and chair of the Pub Watch Scheme praised the success of the glasses initiative.
She said: "We have not got half as many incidents as we used to have because of the poly-carbonated glasses.
"I would definitely hail it as a success."
Mrs Roberts explained through the winter as morst customers at inside she tends to use normal glasses. But throughout the summer months she mostly uses the plastic glasses.
She said: "In the summr months I am all for using plastic glasses as people can take them out to go in the beer garden and have a smoke. I would definitley recommend the use of the glasses to any landlord.
But I am pleased to say there are a lot of pubs in the town who do use them."

“Well said Danny. I wonder how me, here would have described them if it were him who'd been bottled for no apparent reason. I'm not in the slightest bit racist, but facts are facts and it is often the 'foreign population' (choosing my words extremely carefully) of Scunthorpe who cause trouble on nights out.”

“Whilst maybe Jay could have put his comment a little better I suppose, to brand him a racist is a bit strong isn't it? also if the guy really was dirty then how is Jay supposed to describe him? I reckon me,here should go get on the politically correct bus to oblivion with the rest of the do-gooders in Scunthorpe!”
