FUEL: The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) has stepped in to examine the rising cost of fuel against fluctuations in oil prices.
As the price of petrol rose by 38 per cent between June 2007 and June 2012, while diesel prices went up by more than 43 per cent, the OFT has launched a review.

Claire Hart, director in the OFT's services, infrastructure and public markets group, said: "We are keenly aware of continuing widespread concern about the pump price of petrol and diesel."
A number of claims are to be examined, including whether crude oil price reductions are being reflected at the pumps; whether the practices of supermarkets and major oil companies may be making it more difficult for independent retailers to compete; and competition between fuel retailers in some remote parts of the UK.
