Quibell Park stand in Scunthorpe damaged by fire and sportsground closed until further notice

The main stand at Quibell Park sportsground in Scunthorpe has been damaged by fire and the venue closed until further notice.

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service attended the blaze this morning and described the structure next to the athletics track as being severely damaged.

The ground off Brumby Wood Lane is operated by North Lincolnshire Council.

A spokesman for the authority said this afternoon: "Quibell Park stadium in Scunthorpe has suffered extensive damage to the café and smoke damage to the changing rooms and toilets.

"We are in the process of contacting people to cancel or relocate events including a major athletics event that was due to take place this weekend.

"The Police and Fire and Rescue Service are investigating the incident, and the council is assessing the cost of the damage.

"Regrettably, Quibell Park will remain closed until further notice."

    “Those pop up sticker things are everywhere, it's the new face of t'interweb and will kill it eventually


    As for the Quibell Park story, expect an announcement soon regarding it being pulled down and someone getting backhanders for a housing estate”
