Mum pays tribute to son Joshua Parkin, 16, who died in crash
A BRIGG teenager who died in a crash involving a car and a lorry has been described by his heartbroken mother as 'a loveable and popular lad who would do anything for anyone'.
Sixteen-year-old Joshua Parkin, of Bluebell Grove, Brigg, died following a two-vehicle crash on Dawes Lane, Scunthorpe, at around 4.45pm on Saturday.
Laura McGowan, of Legard Avenue, Brigg, also died in the collision after the blue Honda Civic they were travelling in was in collision with a blue DAF HGV.
Joshua's mum, Christina Dawn Reed, described her son as "the life and soul of any party and was always there to make everyone laugh."
She said: "Josh will be missed by everyone who knew him. He was my best friend and I will miss him walking out of the door in his favourite tracksuit bottoms and t-shirt that he always wore.
"He was a mummy's boy at times but he was my rock and was definitely the man of the house.
"Josh had big plans for his future he had wanted to be in the Army, but his asthma held him back. He had enrolled at North Lindsey College to do a welding and engineering course which he was looking forward to."
As one of seven children, six boys and one girl, he was adored by all his sisters and brothers.
"He was the fourth eldest and he looked out for all of them," said Christina. "Josh loved his music and has even managed to get my three-year-old listening to N-Dubz, he loved them but his favourite song was Cast A Light by Plan B."
His favourite meal was meatballs, which she said he wanted for tea every night except on Sundays when he loved a traditional Sunday dinner.

Christina said: "Josh was one in a million and they broke the mould when they made him, is what I always used to say.
"Like most kids his age he loved Facebook and I have had to change the password on my laptop because he kept guessing what it was.
"One of my funniest memories of Josh was when our cat went into labour. He really didn't like the cats, but on that day neither of us knew what to do. Our cat gave birth on my knee and I had to get Josh to help me. He was not happy but we did laugh about it."
She added: "I would like to thank everyone on behalf of all my family for the kind messages of love and support you have shown our family at this time."
A family friend Lorraine described Josh as a "caring young lad who had a big heart."
She said: "If Josh saw me he would come and say hello and make sure I was ok. He always saw the best in anyone and everyone no matter what they had done to him."
As reported, the car which the teenagers were travelling in was travelling from Scunthorpe to Brigg, along Dawes Lane, and the HGV was travelling in the opposite direction.
A 16-year-old girl, from North Lincolnshire, who was also a passenger in the car, remains in Hull Royal Infirmary with life threatening injuries.
The 30-year-old North East Lincolnshire man driving the HGV remains in Scunthorpe Hospital with serious injuries, described as not life threatening.
The 18-year-old man who was arrested has now been released on police bail pending further enquiries into the incident.
Officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or either of the vehicles before the collision – in particular the driver of a silver car which it is believed was overtaken by the blue coloured car involved in the collision, on Dawes Lane, prior to the collision.
Dawes Lane is a private road through the steel works to which public have access.
Police, the ambulance service, the fire brigade, air ambulance and Corus emergency services attended at the scene.
Anyone with any information should call Humberside Police on 0845 60 60 222 quoting log 527 of 210810.

“Laura was at Legard Avenue Ashby
I know the Parkin family are grieving over there sons death.
But so are Lauras
And yet no mention of her seems to be forthcoming
My thoughts are with both of the families
God rest their souls”
