NEW Scunthorpe United striker Lee Miller is hoping for an important delivery next week.

But before then, the front man is looking to do the same for the Iron.

Miller arrived at Glanford Park from Middlesbrough yesterday on a loan deal until the end of the season.

As part of the agreement he is forbidden from playing against his parent club on Tuesday – though the timing means he can return to Scotland, with his wife due to give birth the same day.

The 27-year-old is though, thrown straight into the squad for today's clash with Preston and he is eager to hit the ground running.

"There's always pressure at any team you go to," said the former Aberdeen man, who scored 32 goals in 119 games for the Dons.

"There's pressure being a striker because you're looked at to score all the goals.

"I'm just here to help with link-up play, score as many goals and play as well as I can.

"I'm confident in my own ability.

"But there are probably lots of players who have been playing week in, week out who know they can score the goals as well.

"It's a squad game and a team game.

"Strikers go through purple patches.

"They go through good spells and bad spells, sometimes it takes one ricocheting off your knee and the goals flow from there.

"Hopefully that will happen here.

"As long as the team's winning, you can't ask for anything else."

After struggling to make an impression at the Riverside since joining last year, Miller believes he has something of a point to prove.

The Scottish international enjoyed a boost to his confidence with a loan spell at Notts County earlier this term.

But it is in the Championship where he is really eager to make his mark.

"I've just not had a chance there, not had a sniff," Miller said of his Boro career.

"I don't know if I'll get a sniff.

"But at the end of the day, as a footballer you just need to do your job and when picked for selection go out and show what you can do.

"From being playing week in, week out at Aberdeen before I went to Middlesbrough, it was disappointing that I didn't get as many starts as I thought I would get.

"From doing well at Aberdeen, it was disappointing.

"But that's the way football is sometimes. You just get on with it and pick yourself up.

"I enjoyed my time at Notts County

"I scored a couple of goals and played well.

"It helped my confidence and got my match fitness up.

"You can do as much training as you want, but playing competitive matches is the difference.

"In all fairness to Notts County, they played some really good football and played some good teams, but I'm in the Championship now and I'm looking to progress from here."

“Hopefully this will keep the We needed to replace Hayes people happy as he says himself he is a link up man. DOes beg the question as to whether a natural finisher will come through the door before the end of Jan.”
