Troggs lead singer Reg Presley - who died this week from lung cancer at the age of 71 - made a memorable debut in Scunthorpe during the Sixties, recalls NICK COLE.

Just after With A Girl Like You hit the number one spot in the UK charts, The Troggs were booked as one of the headliners at the Stars of 1966 Festival at Scunthorpe United's Old Show Ground.

Admission for the show, from 6pm to 1am, was an unbelievable £1, and the organisers confidently announced there would be covered accommodation for 10,000 fans if it rained.
