Police have released a new warning to motorists after more details of a theft were revealed.

Humberside Police have warned motorists in North Lincolnshire not to leave vehicles insecure while either running or parked up.

It follows the theft of a red Audi A4 that was taken from an address in Haxey at around 7.35am on Tuesday, February 7.

The keys to the car were left in another vehicle that was left unattended while the owner was de-icing outside a house.

Police had originally reported that the keys to the red Audi had been left inside it, but they now say the keys were in the other vehicle at the scene.

Police say that this is likely to have been an opportunistic thief who may have taken their chance while passing, having seen the insecure vehicle and found the keys to the red Audi.

They say that this would have happened in a matter of seconds giving little chance for passers-by to react.

A spokesman for Humberside Police said: “It appears that the bad weather has not put thieves off, so we would advise motorists to ensure that vehicles are not left insecure while either running or simply parked up.

“A passing thief may not think twice about taking the car or items from within, leaving you to sort out an insurance claim for missing items or worse.”

Anyone who witnesses such a crime or sees any suspicious activity on a morning should contact Humberside Police on 101.
