Report of Scunthorpe & District Ladies’ Luncheon Club
Retirement? What retirement? How often have you heard this? Maggie Poppa came to the Scunthorpe & District Ladies' Luncheon Club with exactly that message and it was certainly a true reflection of her life after 60.
Having led a very busy and varied working life she retired. But this turned out to be not an end but a beginning – the beginning of another very interesting part of her life.
Firstly, she became a news broadcaster with BBC radio Leeds and then an interviewer for a Yorkshire based monthly magazine. In her present job she interviews and writes about famous Yorkshire born persons over the age of fifty. In the course of this she has interviewed over 80 people and hopes to continue well into her 80th decade.
For relaxation she attends weekly 'classes' at the West Yorkshire Playhouse and gives about three talks a week for donations to the local hospice.
