A CONFIDENT performance from Roxanne Norouzi at the latest Pub Idol heat has seen her through to the final.

The 25-year-old student fought off five other entrants in heat four and knew she had to be on top form to progress.

Roxanne graduated from Huddersfield University in 2009 with a degree in music technology and is hoping to pursue a carer in music.

She said: "I was really pleased to win, especially as there was such stiff competition.

"I'm feeling confident at the moment and I hope I can go on and win.

"I've not been in many competitions and last time I entered one, I was about 16.

"I think my voice has matured since then and I've become a lot more confident – it's all down to lots of practice.

"I got some really good feedback on the night and several people commented on the performance."

Roxanne belted out Norah Jones' Don't Know Why and Jetlag by Joss Stone to secure her place in the final

The runner up was Class Act winner, Kasha Willey.

The 16-year-old chose two bold songs on the night, performing Leona Lewis' The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face and the Etta James classic, At Last.

The former Frederick Gough student said: "I really enjoyed the gig and I was pleased with my performance.

"I was up against some really tough competition.

"The audience was very good and the Etta James song went down really well.

"I have quite a deep voice myself so I love women with big voices and my favourite singer is Celine Dion."

Kasha, who is going on to study music and performing arts at John Leggott College in September, says her voice has turned heads from a young age.

She said: "When I was six-years-old I sang at a karaoke and the man organising it told my mum I had a really good voice for my age.

"I'd like to think I could go on and win it, but the competition is high."

The two victors on the night managed to hold off competition from Emma Louise Watson, Rayon Barnes, Paul Gooch and Cheryl Downey.
