Roadworks on central reservation of M18 will cause disruptions
MOTORISTS will suffer disruptions from Monday, as a major central reservation replacement scheme gets underway on the M18.
Nine miles of steel central reservation is being replaced by the Highways Agency with a safer, concrete barrier, which will also improve drainage.
The roadworks will stretch from junction two, near Doncaster and Waterton Bridge, north of junction four and are due to be complete by March next year.
Two lanes will remain open during the day but overnight, only one lane will be in use. During the work, a 50mph speed limit will be in place.
Highways Agency project manager, Andrew Jennings, said: "The new barriers are stronger and more robust – reducing the risk of vehicles involved in accidents when crossing from one side of the motorway to the other, and improving the safety of road users and road workers.
"The barriers also require less maintenance and repairs and will therefore reduce the likelihood of future disruption"

“Yet once they have completed the concrete barriers they leave the 50mph and average cameras in place for no reason. Nice when you already have an hours journey each way.”

“No mention of the inevitable placement of average speed cameras every few hundred yards to maximise profit for South Yorks scamera partnership whilst the work is going on.....”
