Rob Godfrey: I have right man for the job
SCUNTHORPE promoter Rob Godfrey is confident he has appointed 'the right man' to replace Malcolm Vasey as manager of Scunthorpe Saints.
Stuart Parnaby will be watching and learning from Godfrey when the Saints open their National League campaign at King's Lynn on April 3.
"I wanted to go there anyway to see Ashley Birk's first meeting and with the Scorpions being at Stoke, that will work out well," said Godfrey.
"Me and Richard will do the first couple of meetings and show Stuart what goes on.
"It's not just about making a decision on riders, there are forms to fill in and other things to do. We'll teach him a few things and send him on his way.
"He's never done it before so we'll ease him into it.
"Stuart has been about in speedway for a long time, he's ridden at the highest level and rode for us as well.
"When Malcolm told me he was going, Stuart's was the first name that came into my head .
"I'm quite pleased that I've got the right man for the job in Stuart and I'm sure the show will go on."
Godfrey though, was sad to see Vasey (inset) go to the Premier League Potters.
"It was a shock, he only told me on Sunday night, but it's a great opportunity for him," he said.
"He's done a fantastic job here and I'm going to miss him."
