Roll our the barrow and enjoy a look at village gardens
Who has the best barrow in Barrow? The answer will be revealed in June when the village holds its second annual Wheelbarrow Trail – and this year there will also be an opportunity to visit a number of village gardens.
Entries are now being invited for the event on June 8 and 9 which is being organised by the Better Barrow Community Project.

One of last year's barrows in Barrow
The 2012 competition – a variation on other villages’ scarecrow trails and open gardens - caught the imagination of Barrow residents and with the addition of Village Gardens, the community group plans an even bigger and better event.
“Last year’s wheelbarrow trail was very much a last minute thing but we still had over thirty entries,” Better Barrow chairman Trevor Millum explained.

“This year we’re hoping for even more wheelbarrows and also some gardens for visitors to enjoy.
“We also hope to include entertainment in the Market Place and afternoon teas in a garden in the High Street, and we’re working on other attractions.
“For our first competition a lot of people chose a Jubilee theme but this year we’re just asking people to use their imagination so we expect some very different entries.”
Better Barrow was formed in January 2012. The purpose of the group - which is supported by a grant from North Lincolnshire Council Community Fund - is, through community involvement, to improve and enhance the environment of the village and raise awareness of its heritage, with a particular focus on the Market Place.
Future plans include marking the anniversary of John Harrison’s birth and death. The horologist was born on 24 March 1693 and died on the same date in 1776 and a memorial to the village’s famous resident is being considered for the Market Place.
The deadline for registration for the Wheelbarrow Trail and for those who would like to open their gardens is May 31.
Entry forms are available from Barrow Village News and the Post Office or by e-mail from annb246@btinternet.com
Better Barrow Community Project will also be setting up its popular cake stall at this year’s car boot sales, organised by the Rotary Club of Barrow Meridian and being held on Barrow Playing Field on April 1 and August 26.
