MINISTER for Yorkshire and Humber Rosie Winterton has been briefed in Scunthorpe on plans for the south Humber bank.

Winterton met with the leaders of North Lincolnshire Council and North East Lincolnshire Council, plus MPs Shona McIsaac, Ian Cawsey and Austin Mitchell at Pittwood House, Ashby Road.

The minister was briefed on plans to create a deep water port on the Humber, exploit four square miles of open land around the ports and a campaign to get Government funding for upgrades to the A160.

After the meeting, Ms Winterton told the Scunthorpe Telegraph: "I was extremely impressed with the work that is being done through the South Humber Gateway."

Ms Winterton said she was confident a decision on the A160 upgrades will follow the formal submission of the Regional Transport Board, expected in the next few days.

She added: "I will work with the transport minister to encourage them to try to make the decision as quickly as possible."

Cleethorpes MP Shona McIsaac has most of the area for development in her constituency.

She said: "It's brilliant Rosie Winterton has taken the time to come here today.

"There were several different things we asked the minister today.

"It's always a process of nudging them forward. She was very positive."

“Well put Bernard. When will these idiots ever realise that -other than hoodwinking the idle class an their naive, apathetic and gullible core voters with blatant electioneering- they are insulting the rest of us who long since cottoned on to the lies, spin, hype and damaging legacies of Nu Liebor's bully boys”

“upgrade the A160 ok but what about the A180 and A15.Both of these roads could carry a lot more hgv,s if this scheme goes ahead. The A180 needs widening to 3 lanes and reclassifying as the M180 from Barnetby top to A160 turnoff. Similary the A15 needs to be a dual carraigeway from the M180 to the outskirts of Lincoln.Dont half do the job,do it properly. Dont forget the rail network though,a container service from Immingham to Manchester should be encouraged to take lorries off the M62 in particular.”

“Thanks Mrs Winterton and Labour cronies.

Now perhaps these over paid self serving politicians(local and national) would like to come and live in the S***hole that they are now intent on creating just for a few unguaranteed jobs.

No thought is ever given to the people who have to put up with the dangers and pollution caused by the Industry (present and future) or the blighted property which is becoming worthless in Sth Killingholme due to the traffic and fumes generated by it.

Then of course we will soon receive the increased Council tax bills which we are expected to pay in order to pay the overpaid councillors salarys AND expences for heaping more misery on us.

This exercise was a photo shoot and free election propaganda for the failing Labour party.
Shame on anyone who has the nerve to vote for them and another 5 years of their incompetance.”

“We have a minister for Yorkshire and Humberside,a county that doesn't exist any more?
Don't we have MP's representing these areas?
No doubt she has an office full of civil servants doing plenty of "filing".
What a complete waste of money”
