SCUNTHORPE United will begin life back in League One with a trip to Wycombe Wanderers.

The match will take place on Saturday, August 6 and will be the Iron's first trip to Adams Park - a venue at which they have never won - in six years.

It's a game which pits together two newcomers to the third tier, with United relegated to the division from the Championship at the end of last season and the Chairboys promoted after finishing third in League Two.

Scunthorpe's first home game of the season, seven days after their journey to Buckinghamshire, is against fellow relegated side Preston North End.

August is completed by a midweek home game with Oldham Athletic and trips to former Premier League duo Charlton Athletic and Sheffield Wednesday.

Games with Wednesday and city rivals Sheffield United are arguably the biggest on United's fixture calender.

They entertain the Blades on September 10, Wednesday on January 7 - providing neither side reaches the third round of the FA Cup - and visit Bramall Lane at the end of January.

Other notable matches on the calender include a Boxing Day test against Alan Knill's former club Bury at Glanford Park. The Iron manager returns for what is likely to be a hostile reception at Gigg Lane in March.

Easter includes hosting Exeter City on Good Friday, the prelude to a long trip north to Carlisle United two days later.

The season ends on May 5, at Tranmere Rovers.

When they were last promoted from League One, a late goal from Cliff Byrne secured Scunthorpe the point they needed against Rovers to book them a place in the play-offs at the expense of their visitors.

They will similarly hope to be involved in the promotion frame again in 2011/12.

“"will be the Iron's first trip to Adams Park - a venue at which they have never won - in six years"

Now im no rocket scientist but if its their first trip there, surely that might be a good reason as to why they have never won there.”
