TRANSFER target Conor Sammon has remained tight-lipped on suggestions he is set to sign for Scunthorpe United – but is expected at Glanford Park today to hold talks with the Iron.

The striker scored in Kilmarnock's 1-1 draw with St Johnstone on Saturday, shortly after his manager Mixu Paatelainen had announced a transfer fee had been agreed for the Irishman to join United.

The Killie star was expected to travel down to Scunthorpe yesterday, with a view to holding talks today.

But the in-form 24-year-old, whose goal on Saturday was his 16th of the season in all competitions, was quick to temper any ideas the switch had already been finalised.

"I am just reading in the papers different rumours and stories," Sammon said in an interview with BBC Scotland.

"I have heard nothing about any of those things.

"But it is not something that I let distract me.

"I just want to go out on the park and keep helping the team progress.

"I love playing here at Kilmarnock."

Details of the transfer fee accepted by Killie have not been made public, but the Iron are likely to have had to pay as much as £600,000 to land the Irishman.

United boss Ian Baraclough has confirmed his side's move for Sammon and is hoping the striker will not be his only new recruit this week.

"There are things I would like to think we are close to doing," he admitted.

"But it does not help when things appear in the press.

"I don't want to go shouting out about my interests and who I want because it only alerts others."

“so far reading his comments sammon would seem to favour staying where he is imho. i'd prefer to see a player wanting to play for us, v v disappointing if sammon does reject he looks a better player than what we have up front, not hard tho!!!! UTI”

“It doesn't look good - Forte is getting bigged up beyond belief on the OWS. It will be like signing a new player when he turns the corner.

    Intelligence insulting, arrogant, transparent.”
