Saxby Wold wind turbines plan refused by councillors
Controversial plans for wind turbines in a rural area of North Lincolnshire were turned down by councillors meeting in Scunthorpe this afternoon.
RWE npower renewables Ltd was refused permission to construct 16 wind turbines and associated infrastructure.
-

RWE npower renewables wanted to put up 16 turbines at a site at Horkstow.
The development, on land to the west of Brigg Road, Horkstow, was turned down by North Lincolnshire Council’s planning committee.
The proposed site is close to the Viking Way – a major public right of way.
The company has the right of appeal to the Government.
RWE npower renewables had claimed there was public support for the development, which it said would bring at least £12m of investment to the region.
It had cut the number of turbines at the proposed Saxby Wold wind farm from 18 to 16 in the face of strong opposition from campaigners.
The project had been fiercely opposed by the Saxby Wold Against Turbines pressure group since plans for it were first submitted in 2009 and permission had already been refused once by the council, in January last year.
RWE npower submitted a second planning application in July.

“We need to get the Government onside, as well as local councils and others, if we are going to stop these wind turbines being built.
Are you disillusioned by rising electricity prices, over dependence on the "green" dream [especially uneconomical and inefficient wind farms] and the destruction of our countryside then please register your objection to the Government on
http://tinyurl.com/cajsyrf
or by GOOGLING "E-PETITION 22958" and following the link.
Please pass this message on to Councillors, members of your community and anyone else you know to persuade them to sign up too. If you are really concerned about wind turbines please write a letter promoting this petition to your local Newsletter and to the Editors of your local newspapers.”

“@BartonLady
so wind turbines are inefficient? .. are they really? Show me your working out, BartonLady
Wind turbines are in fact superbly efficient. Only a few percent of the output energy is required to manufacture and install them.
Perhaps you're fretting about the fact that the output is choppy/variable and unpredicatble? That is true, the average output power is only 30% of the peak but the solution to this isn't to carry on as we are or Imhotep forbid, resort to nuclear power.
I'm almost losing the will to live here! We need to get ALL our energy from renewable sources in order to decarbonise our entire energy infrastructure. Electricity accounts for only 20% of our energy. We need a very large stock of wind turbines and other renewable sources to break our dependency on oil and other fossil fuels.
Feeding most of the renewably generated electricity into electrolysis units would allow the large slewing of wind farm outputs to be absorbed easily, generating hydrogen both for back up power and synthesis of liquid fuels using standard chemical industry kit.
Compared to other potential sources of renewable energy, only wind has the sheer capacity to come anywhere near meeting our massive demand at reasonable cost, even after taking reasonable measures to reduce that demand. As I've demonstrated elsewhere, the cost of generating electricity from wind is comparable to natural gas.
Capturing energy from tidal power requires either underwater tidal-stream turbines, or large tidal lagoons:
because water density is 1,000 times or so greater than air density then power outputs comparable with a wind turbine can be obtained from rotors 30 times smaller. The design for such devices is not at a mature stage yet , as is the case for wind turbine technology, which is the reason that 'subsidies' for installing them are not in place.
Tidal lagoons either have to involve damning up a river estuary, with possibly catastrophic upstream effects, or building large structures at sea. A full fuel cycle analysis of such a proposition is likely to show that the energy required to build such structures may exceed the anticipated total energy collected, making it non-viable!”

“When it comes down to it you will find that nuclear power is the only viable option. We've taken our foot off the pedal. It will not be too many years down the line before we are impoting all of our electricity from France, you watch.”

“Wind turbines are one word INEFFICIENT!!!! The only reason any power company is building the is the subsidies.
Claiming that those in opposition are all NIMBY's is absolutely preposterous. I would love to see more investment in tidal power but guess what ... that doesnt carry the same subsidies so the power companies are not interested.
These monstrosities are only in the headlines because the fat cats in the power industries dont want to look for the real CO2 reductions but are chasing the fast buck.”

“i would like to recommend we watch the great global warming scam on you-tube full version , open your eyes take a look , we are been taxed loosing jobs because of this , corporations banks and investors are making a fortune out of global warming taxed on emissions our company's industry are moving abroad where there are no emission laws or taxes but cheaper labour . British company's are struggling to meet emission laws and taxes making our goods more expensive and loosing our place in marketing .”

“What Britain needs is a diverse mix of energy supply we need to utilise all sources and options that this country has available so the way i see it we need to start building nuclear power stations again, invest in tidal energy, all new homes built should be fitted with solar panels, we should utilies wind power wherever possible. This country also still has nearly 20 years worth of coal reserves, get it dug up again while the alternative energy infrastructure is built, and continue with the development of biomass. I personally disagree with people who say we should use less energy, that using modern appliances are a luxury, it is 2012 not 1950. The world has changed and we just need to keep investing sensibly in the energy infrastructure to provide us with our energy needs. Britain has everything it needs to be energy self sufficient the main problem at the moment is to many people are just out for backhanders and a quick buck and have no interest in the nations needs or our childrens future. On a lighter note i actually quite like land based wind turbines they are no worse to look at than an industrially farmed north lincolnshire landscape.”

“It was gratifying & comforting to witness local democracy in action and respected by our community leaders and representatives. Even moreso that this was reflected in their unanimous consensus on the planners' concerns & objections; that such a scheme would be detrimental to one of North Lincolnshire's most prominent and valuable landscape features.
It goes without saying that the Low Wolds, Ancholme and wider North Lincolnshire communities should be and, I believe are indebted to and we applaud all concerned for coming to the right and proper decision here.
Saxby Wolds Againsts Turbines; NLC planning/environmental officers and committee; 10 parish & town councils and the many councillors, supporters, speakers who have worked tirelessly to represent the opposition to this scheme. Well done to everyone concerned.
Hopefully RWE NPower, Mr Parker and others from the onshore renewables industry have finally got the message this time around?!!”

“Where does Spongeplop live? He's just agreed to have wind turbines in his back yard! Hope his neighbours don't complain too much! Just consider when the Government removes the subsidies on wind turbines that the cost will rocket out of all proportion. What we need to do as a nation is reduce our consumption: we don't need the washing machine on everyday, dish washers are a luxury we can do without, put a kettle on top of your woodburning stove, turn off the computer, take the x-box off the kids, and for Gods sake get rid of the electric car!!!!
When do we need the most electricity? Of course! When its very cold or very hot. Consider that when it is cold it is usually a still, cloudless night in winter; when its hot it is usually a still cloudless day in summer............ie no wind::::::::no turning turbines:::::::no electricity. Who thought this idea up in the first place? Must have gone to a red brick university!”

“Spongeplop the comparison between a 30ft high pylon compared to a 425ft wind turbine on high ground is a ridiculous comparison! The fact that the fossil driven power stations will disappear if there are 1,000s of wind turbines around is another misconception because they won't!There is a better solution than these monstrosities and that is TIDAL POWER of which there is an abundance of in the area. The ones at Dragonby seem to be stationary more times than turning when I go past on the bus! These things are costly to erect and maintain, cost millions in subsidies, are inefficient power providers, and ruin the landscape, why do you think many European countries are turning away from wind generation and more than 100 of our mp's are calling for a rethink on the building and funding of these inefficient things!!!!!!!!!!If you want one in your backyard put one in personally I would be happy with a nuclear power plant on the humber.”
