Promoter Rob Godfrey believes he has built a Scunthorpe team to compete with the best the Premier League has to offer next year.

Although 2012 will see a number of changes, there is a familiar ring to the Scorpions line-up.

Josh Auty was part of the all-conquering Conference League side and returns to the Eddie Wright Raceway after leaving Sheffield Tigers.

Ashley Birks too, enters the side as a third tier title winner after helping Scunthorpe Saints claim the National League crown.

But there will be a completely new face in 21-year-old Australian Tom Armstrong, who Godfrey describes as a 'gamble'.

Making up the team will be David Howe, Tero Aarnio, Thomas Jorgensen and Michael Palm Toft.

"Last year I wasn't expecting anything, next year I'm expecting everything," said Godfrey.

"It's as good as we can get.

"We've not rushed it together, we've taken our time to put it together and it's the best we can do.

"Tom's the gamble in the team, the rest are certs.

"I'm not saying we're going to win it (the title), but we will be up there.

"Next year will be our best chance of winning something.

"If we're ever going to do it, it's next year.

"Apart from maybe Tom Armstrong, I can't see any way that team's going to go backwards. If they all go forwards, we're on to a winner.

"In years gone past, you say it and just think it might be, but this one is the one.

"This year I knew we were going to win the National League, and deep down I know we're going to win the Premier League next year.

"We've got our best chance of winning it now.

"I know it depends on injuries and that's pretty much what will stop us."

Godfrey admitted though, he had some tough choices to make.

Richard Hall, Ben Wilson, Carl Wilkinson and Steve Worrall all finished the season just gone in the team, but have found their services no longer required.

"Carl has been here a number of years and it was a difficult choice," said Godfrey.

"It was painful, and with Stevie as well.

"We just felt that Ashley could give us a little bit more at Scunthorpe, which we needed, and possibly a bit more away.

"We're not going to win anything just at Scunthorpe, we need some more away points.

"We feel this team can score points away, as well as winning the home meetings."
