Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey says Scorpions fans can look forward to some bumper Bank Holiday meetings when the Premier League fixture list is released.

After a slight hold-up the final draft is on the verge of being confirmed, with dates expected to be announced in the next few days.

"There has been some problems with them because other clubs weren't happy with the fixtures they were given and have been changing them," Godfrey explained.

"To be fair, ours were fine from the start and we were happy.

"We've got some good fixtures.

"All the Bank Holidays will be double headers, and all the Saints ones will probably be as well, to get them all in."

The Scorpions will open their season with home and away challenge meetings against Leicester Lions.

The first of those, at the Eddie Wright Raceway on March 16, will incorporate the Kenny Smith Memorial Trophy in heat 15.

Godfrey had hoped to honour Scunthorpe's former manager, who passed away in 2009, with an individual meeting, but was deterred by an already packed programme that weekend.

"We couldn't get the riders at the end of the season so we thought we'd get them at the beginning," he explained.

"But then you've ended up with loads of individual meetings on the same weekend.

"If there was just ours we could have got a good field, but because there are all the others that weekend, it would just devalue it.

"Leicester asked if we would be interested in a challenge meeting, which I'd never thought about before.

"It's not ideal but it's a way of fulfilling the commitment to Kenny."
