Scunthorpe District and Choral Society will bring a rare opportunity to Scunthorpe – with a performance of Bizet's Carmen. On Saturday, November 24 at 7.30pm The Baths Hall, Scunthorpe, will see the society join forces with the Cantata Orchestra and four top flight soloists for a performance of Bizet's Carmen. Lady Margaret Mason said: "Whilst this is a concert version, the performance by the soloists will be dramatic in its presentation. "Most people will be familiar with the beautiful music and the dramatic but tragic story of Carmen."

The title role will be sung by Yorkshire born Claire Bradshaw. She recently performed this role in The Albert Hall, receiving rave reviews and she is regarded as one of the finest mezzo sopranos of her generation. She is in demand by the major Opera Companies and has sung alongside Jose Carreras and Kirk TeKanawa as well as singing at Buckingham Palace for the 50th birthday party of Prince Charles.

Lady Mason added: "Rachel Dyson, Nick Hardy and Nicholas Crawley are the other soloists in this performance. All of them sing major roles in Opera and on the concert platform. It will be a privilege for local concert goers to hear them as they bring to life the compelling story of Carmen, the gypsy girl and the charismatic heroine of this fast moving, dramatic work."

Tickets priced at £15 or £12 (students and children £5) are available from The baths Hall or online at www.scunthorpetheatres.co.uk
