No fixed date has been set on when the store will close and it will continue to trade in the meantime.

However, it is expected the store will close over the next one to two months.

Other stores identified for closure include Wandsworth, Bayswater, Birmingham Fort, Wakefield, Barnsley, St Albans and a number in Glasgow.

Nick Edwards, Joint Administrator, said: “As part of our ongoing review of HMV’s financial position, we have now completed a review of the store portfolio and have identified 66 loss making stores for closure.

"This step has been taken in order to enhance the prospects of securing the business’ future as a going concern.

“We continue to receive strong support from staff and are extremely grateful to them for their commitment during an understandably difficult period.

"All other key stakeholders remain very supportive and I continue to be hopeful of securing a future for the restructured business."

HMV currently operates from 220 stores in the UK.

That said though I could not understand why people would go weekly or more often to purchase the latest music record / tape / CD or film video cassette or film CD just to put there hard earned money into the hands of the music and film industries to pay inflated incomes.
    ..................................................
So who pays your wages then, or does your employer have some magical powers that enables them to pay wages from thin air....”

“Each person has the right to spend and enjoy their money and spend it how they wish and on what ever they like. That said though I could not understand why people would go weekly or more often to purchase the latest music record / tape / CD or film video cassette or film CD just to put there hard earned money into the hands of the music and film industries to pay inflated incomes the these pop stars and film stars and all the hangers on. Twelve years ago I had a mate who would be happy to tell you about a big collection of film videos and CD's they had. I was speaking to this once mate when I met them in town before Christmas and during the short conversation I asked about the collection of films, they told me that nearly all of them had been thrown in the skip. I would have thought that over the years if that money had been saved it would have paid for a good family holiday abroad somewhere.”
