Scunthorpe Pods 'football' evacuation: Steps being taken 'to prevent an incident like this occurring again'
Steps are being taken to try and avoid a repeat of last night's incident at the Pods in Scunthorpe which saw the evacuation of visitors and staff from the leisure centre.
A spokeswoman for North Lincolnshire Council said this morning (Thursday): "A fire alarm was activated at The Pods in Scunthorpe last night at around 8.15pm. The building was evacuated safely and quickly. There were about 60 people that were evacuated, but they were allowed to go back into the building after 15 minutes when the fire brigade made sure it was safe to do so. A football match was taking place in the sports hall and the football hit the fire alarm sensor, which activated it.

“If only as much was spent on the actual facilities inside as the buildings itself then we would have a venue to be proud of. Instead all we got was a swimming pool, gym and sports hall.”

“Hey Localad, we all enjoy reading the stories - however trivial they may be to the people not involved - & I guess you do as well as you took the time to comment! This is a free service provided to us and despite our snarky comments it continues! Keep up the good work Nige & Co, it's better than watching the telly this site sometimes. PS. ask Simon if it is going to snow!”
