The competition is in to the 2nd heat.

Already some very talented bands although sadly they can't all make it through.

Its not just bands from Scunthorpe but also places such as Lincoln, Sheffield, Grimsby, Barton etc.

Some bands spotted through Rock Open have gone on to gain a record deal or expand a growing fan base.

This week see's the 9 hour Retro festival, with bands reforming from as far back as the 80's. So re live your youth & it's all for a good cause.

See www.thisisscunthorpe.co.uk for more information.

Over the years Rock Open has survived many location moves from when I first started going at the Baths Hall, where Enter Shikari played. Could you be the first to discover a new band. Another good name to look up who have gone far from this competition is Silent Film Project from Scunthorpe/Sheffield.

Last year I would have to say My favourite band was The Handsome Custards (custards used instead of a b word). They used a sound board to add a little something extra to their songs & set.

So seen as we are only 2 heats in why not come down to the Bridge Hotel (next to Train station) & for £2.50 maybe you'll see a band that in a few years have a sell out tour?

So instead of your regular sitting in the street or bored at home grab some friends.

The venue size is just about right. The stage is quite small but its advantage is its high so everyone can see.

The numbers are getting better & the place was filling up more last week, so lets see it full!

“Oh dear, Yeh I think everyone thought under 18's were allowed because they always have been seen ive been going since 2002 age 14 then.

Not really your fault if they didnt tell you or tell you to ID people. They should probably have picked a venue that all ages are allowed then seen band members are sometimes under 18.

What were you bar staff? Well I didnt see any under 18's drinking.

Hope you get sorted because that doesnt seem fair.

Organises maybe should have also stated this.”

“I would recommend no bands or visitors to rock open that are under 18 or have band members under 18 to apply or visit the venue, as a member of staff at the venue i was recently sack due to door staff from last weeks heat, wrongly advising management that i had given authority to let under 18s in the venue, when apparently the venue licence says that under 18s are only allowed in the venue if they are having a meal.

If the termination of my contract stands then bands that have under 18 member will be turned away at the door and also visitors.”
