Whenever you look at an area's prosperity, the level of unemployment is always a key indicator.

Unemployment blights towns across the UK. It holds development back, increases crime, lowers aspirations and brings others down with it.

On the flip side, jobs bring prosperity, a feel-good factor and encourage other businesses to invest as well.

That's why the Scunthorpe Telegraph-led Your Life, Your Future campaign is so crucial to North Lincolnshire.

Today, we launch a new drive to create more employment across our region and raise the aspirations of all of our communities.

With our partners, we hope it will tackle the issue of people who are not currently employed, in education or being trained.

The aim is to highlight what is available for young people - not just jobs but training and education opportunities as well.

The focus is on apprenticeships and also the significant opportunities that will arrive with the renewables industry.

But it's not just about starting people at the bottom of the ladder. It's about raising their aspirations to go to the top and get well-paid jobs from which the whole North Lincolnshire economy can benefit.

Nor is it just about young people, the campaign will also highlight opportunities that exist for retraining.

As a community newspaper, we care passionately about North Lincolnshire and its people.

Working with North Lincolnshire Council and our other partners, we are confident this will deliver a brighter future from which the whole area can prosper.
