Scunthorpe Telegraph

Four teams in the top five won in the latest round of Scunthorpe Telegraph Quiz League matches.

In truth two of the teams were somewhat fortunate to do so with narrow victories. Cricket Club and Panthers played out comfortably the highest scoring game of the night with an aggregate of 106 points. Cricket Club pulled away early doors and led for seven rounds of the contest but a spirited fightback by the Panthers ensured the points.

Eagles beat Sherpa by eight points to remain clear at the top of the table.

Squares defeated Ashby Star by six points but maybe should have won by a lot more having led by a comfortable margin from early on in the contest.

Bunch were perhaps a little fortunate to see off St Bernadette's in their battle. Not for the first time this season, Bunch were indebted to a late revival in rounds nine and 10 but they did win the bonus count 10-7.

Once again STTC threw away the chance of victory in the late stages of their latest game against Robert Holme having led throughout the first eight rounds of their contest.

In what proved to be an even contest, the Table Tennis Club were left rueing two particularly poorly answered questions either of which would have given them victory. Reigning champions Robert Holme's win meant four wins out of five to keep the pressure up on leaders Eagles.

Unusually Imps were involved in a somewhat disappointing affair against Dodgers with the two teams managing just 85 points between them.

Imps deservedly took the points being 18 points ahead at half time although they had a fright in round six with Dodgers winning it by an 8-0 scoreline.

Highest score: Panthers, 55 points.

Highest aggregate: Cricket Club v Panthers, 106 points.

Results: Cricket Club 51 Panthers 55, Squares 52 Ashby Star 46, Eagles 51 Sherpa 43, STTC 46 Robert Holme 48, Imps 48 Dodgers 37, St Bernadette's 45 Bunch 49.
