Scunthorpe Telegraph Restaurant of Year revealed
Just a year after opening, staff at Bengal Premier in Scunthorpe are celebrating it being crowned Restaurant of the Year.
Naz Miah, a partner in the business, said he was delighted that his Frodingham Road restaurant had claimed top spot in the competition.
“We feel delighted. There are so many good restaurants in town and we only opened in August last year,” he said.
“We are delighted to achieve so much in such a short space of time, especially when we are competing against restaurants that have been established for many years.

“We owe a lot of thanks to our customers for their support, because 95 per cent of the people that come here do so because of a recommendation from a friend or family.”
When asked why he though his restaurant had beaten so many other strong eateries, Mr Miah said his unique menu made the difference.
“We are very different to anyone else because we have so many unique dishes that other Indian restaurants do not offer,” he said.
“We offer a really special selection of chutneys and pickles, as well as some very unique main courses. We have venison dishes, gongura chicken and lemon seabass on our menu as well as traditional Indian cuisine.
“We always try to be different and have a lot of passion and drive to be at the top of our game.”
Mr Miah also held high praise for his kitchen staff. He said: “Our chefs are excellent. They love to create new dishes and are always looking at ways to try new things and improve their skills. We aare also very proud of the 5* North Lincolnshire Council hygiene award we hold.
“People are always surprised by the menu and we try to be different to everyone else. Not many Indian restaurants will serve a lemon seabass. People always say that they have never had anything like it before.
“We all work hard for the business and try to treat every customer as though they are a member of our family. We make them comfortable from the minute they come through our doors and ensure they have a great experience with us.”

One of the region’s finest Italian eateries came a close second in the 2012 Restaurant of the Year competition.
Colosseo, on Ravendale Street North in Scunthorpe, continued to impress judges after winning last year’s competition.
The exquisite Italian restaurant came runner up to Bengal Premier, but staff are still pleased to have done so well.
Connie Catalano, owner of Colosseo, said: “We feel pleased to have done well in the competition. It was nice taking part and good to come second place.
“It is definitely good for the publicity of the restaurant.
“I think people like us because of the friendly family atmosphere that we have in the restaurant. Regular customers love coming back because we have such good consistency. The chefs have been with us for many years and are so good at producing excellent food using authentic Italian ingredients.
“The food they produce is of a real high quality.
“This is also good for us because it is our 20th anniversary year. It has been something of a celebration year so this is good as well.”
Colosseo was also named restaurant of the year in 2009 and has won one of the categories every year since the competition began.
