FORMER Scunthorpe United manager Nigel Adkins may still be in the running to take charge at Reading.
But it seems Brighton and Hove Albion’s Gus Poyet is the odds-on favourite to replace Brian McDermott.

It has been reported the Uruguayan has been granted permission to talk to the Royals, who, it is claimed, would have to pay more than £2 million compensation to get their man.
Adkins was controversially given the boot by Southampton in January.

Owner Anton Zingarevich will have the final say on who Reading bring in, but chairman Sir John Madejski told the Reading Chronicle: "Until an appointment is made we'll be keeping very tight lipped about it.
"In due course we will announce the person who is taking over Reading Football Club, but certainly nobody has been chosen just yet.
"I know the owner is very keen to get somebody he feels he can work with and will obviously take Reading forward in the long term."
