JAMES Alabi’s stay with Scunthorpe United is expected to be extended until the end of the season.

The Stoke City striker’s current one-month youth loan is up after Saturday’s derby with Doncaster Rovers, but Iron boss Brian Laws says there is the option to keep him for longer.

The 18-year-old has made four appearances in claret and blue, all of which have come from the substitutes’ bench, and already has a goal to his name from his debut against Hartlepool United.

Laws admits the teenager is still ‘very raw’ but has hinted he could return again next term.

“We can keep him until the end of the season if we want to,” he said of Alabi.

“James is only 18, we’ve got to remember that. We brought him in just as a support mechanism.

“He’s not the finished article, by any stretch of the imagination. He’s very raw.

“But the fact that it’s an extra body for us and it’s not costing us anything is great for us.

“We can also have a look at him, because we want to be looking not just for now but for next season as well because we’re going to have to rely on a lot of loans next year, I believe.

“There’s a chance we’ll probably extend it but we’ll wait until after the weekend.”
