Scunthorpe United fail in move for Paul Hayes
SCUNTHORPE United chairman Steve Wharton has tried to bring striker Paul Hayes back to Glanford Park.
And though Preston North End have rejected the Iron's approach, he has not ruled it out from one day happening.

Paul Hayes has struggled to make an impression at Preston since joining the Lilywhites during the summer.
“I have been in contact with Paul when I heard he was not happy at Preston,” Wharton revealed.
“I had permission from Preston to talk to him.
“I did my best to try and encourage him to come back.”
Hayes quit Glanford Park last summer to sign a lucrative three-year deal at Deepdale for the then Preston manager Darren Ferguson.
But the move has turned sour for the former Iron ace, who has been loaned out for a spell at Barnsley this season.
Hayes could not even get into the Preston squad of 18 for Tuesday’s visit to Glanford Park, but Brown had said previously he would not allow the player to join one of his side's relegation rivals.
Wharton though is refusing to give in when it comes to luring Hayes back to United for a third stint.
“Nothing in football would ever surprise me,” said Wharton.

“Why not have Wharton as the manager?
Why is he deciding who we should sign?
Great player but let the new manager pick the players and the team.
WHAT AN ODD WEEK - Simon Elliot invited back onto the board today...shhhh”

“YOU SHOULD NEVER HAVE OFFLOADED HIM LIKE YOU DID IN THE SUMMER - just to save a few bob you refused him a three year deal and forced his hand. He was our player of the season last season, a fans favourite and you did him and us an injustice.
Be prepared to get your hand in your pocket (sorry the club's pocket) and make sure he's back here in the summer - you may get some errant fans back if you do.”
