The Glanford Park pitch, currently under protective frost sheets, will be assessed at 9.30am on Friday morning.
The Iron are due to begin removing the covers and clearing the Glanford Park pitch of snow half an hour earlier, but they are keen to make as early a decision as possible as to whether the game is playable given the Pompey team are due to travel later on that day.
United first raised concerns as to whether the game would go ahead yesterday.

Temperatures have dropped as low as minus seven this week and further snow flurries are forecast for Friday night.
Scunthorpe boss Brian Laws today admitted he was desperate for the game to go ahead and give his side a great chance to further their unbeaten start to 2013 against a Pompey side who are without a win in 13 games.
“It’s a difficult one, we’re in the hands of the weather really. It seems to be changing almost by the hour," Iron general manager David Beeby told the Telegraph.
