Scunthorpe United's greatest ever player decided
Scunthorpe United fans regard Gary Hooper as the Iron's greatest player of all time.
That's according to a major poll whose results were announced today.
North Lincolnshire Museum, in Oswald Road, Scunthorpe, undertook the survey as part of its very popular and long-running exhibition - Our Sporting Life, A Celebration of Scunthorpe United.
In second place, fans voted Alex Calvo-Garcia, with Billy Sharp taking third spot.
Equal fourth were Joe Murphy and Kevin Keegan.
Almost 700 fans voted and 48 players gained nominations.
The competition ran for nine months during one of the most popular North Lincolnshire Museum exhibitions ever staged.
A North Lincolnshire Council spokesman said: "We had 17,532 visitors between April 2011 and the exhibition closing and many had not been to the museum before.
"It has been a great success with people supporting their local team and donating some fantastic objects for display."
The next exhibition, Gadgets and Gizmos, opens on February 13.

“Same old same old I see. Same lack of ability by clappers to debate reasonably in a forum and merely resort to juvenile insults through evident shortsightedness. If more than a handful of people agree with the general overtures the like of NilforKnill expound then a lot of people may think about giving up the cause. Or not. Defintely not. Absolutely not. Not until change comes.”

“That is the problem with clappers - they all resort to insults, lies and conjecture when challenged. All us real fans do is call them clappers and occasionally point out their failings in being able to see beyond the end of their noses.”

“NilforKnill,
Your comment 1:- "big yourself up as a fan"
Actually been a turnstile supporter since 1951, this should be enough to be called a real supporter.
Your sick comment 2:- " don't you have a job to go to, get on with some work"
Actually worked in a professional status for 54 years, and retired at 68 years of age, so really do not need any more contracts do I ? ENOUGH TO BE CALLED A REAL WORKER.
I think that you will find that yours are the pathetic views pal, now get yourself a ticket for Saturdays and Tuesdays matches and support the lads, you will also note that all comments coming from PStoff, Carl Lewis, and many others are against the "no ambition" management and at the way that our club is now being run, and not comments against the players.
If you cannot afford tickets for the games HAPPY CLAPPER, give me a bell and I will pay for them, but father in law has probably sent you a free one.
UP THE IRON!!!!!!!!!!”

“I do not think that operating a poll at the Scunthorpe Museum is the best and fairest place to hold it, probably most of the visitors were kids on school trips.
The best way would have been to issue a voting slip at each of the GP turnstiles, say for two home matches, then us proper fans would have had our votes added. The vote taken at the Museum should have been the BEST PLAYER OF PRESENT TIMES, not the best ever S****hore player.
There is no doubt what so ever in my mind, that Barrie Thomas was the best ever player of Scunthorpe United, followed by Kevin Keegan and Gary Hooper, best goalkeeper in my mind was Ken Jones, best full back being Jackie Brownsword and best centre half being Dick White. Please note that this is a personal opinion FROM A TURNSTILE SUPPORTER OF THE CLUB, and that most of the 17,000 that voted will possibly not have heard of these players.
UP THE IRON !!!!”
